I really saw that playing out differently in my mind

A few days back I had this awesome idea to start doing "2 a days" to up my fitness game.  So far I have lost about 35 lbs or so.  I 'm getting stronger again so realistically I am taking up less room now a days.  I thought this is the level of dedication needed for the next 35 lbs.

I run in the morning, I hit the weights and the basketball court during lunch and I hit the hamster wheel at night.  In my mind this makes so much sense.  Here are JDial's thoughts before the first few days of his 2 a day workout schedule - Why haven't I been doing this all my life, I should have a 6 pack by the end of the summer........ yeah by the end of the summer.

As you would guess after the first week I was so sore I felt as though the good Lord didn't love me anymore.  I was told that I should only do a 2 a day workout schedule in 2 week spurts.  So with only one week left and feeling forsaken - I decided to keep moving forward.

On Tuesday of my second week I was told (by an X-Army Ranger" "JD this is the first day..... ", yada yada yada.  I took those words as my fuel and ran so hard I began to see these little white spots and I pushed the weight like I had the body of a Spartan in the movie 300.

When I walked out of the gym I was on "E"people, I was so tired.  I decided I needed a salad - a hearty salad.  So I drank my "post work out" juice and began to think of small cuts of chicken and ham.  In the mist of my salad dream I put my gym bag in the trunk and as the trunk shut I saw my keys by a can of red bull in the corner of the trunk.  I grabbed for the door and just missed it.

With my head phones blasting my workout music I jumped toward the driver side door, hoping it was unlocked aaaaannnnndddd nope it had already re-locked its self.  Now is a good time to let you know I leave my wallet and my iphone in the car when I workout (so I won't loose them :) ).  Great idea huh?  Don't worry I got tons of good ideas, I didn't use them all on this one.

It's at this point that I start to panic - why you might ask.  Well, I was supposed to be in a video conference meeting in 20 minutes back at the office.  Our office is about 3 miles away.  So I run inside and ask to use the courtesy phone.  When I pick up the phone I realize something, without my Iphone I don't know anything - literally anything.  I don't know my office number, I don't know Brandy's number, I don't know any of my brother's phone numbers, get the picture.  All the people who would drop what they were doing to help me might as well have been in Uruguay.

So the over weight Spartan didn't think about it, he just started to run.  After a run that morning and hard weight lifting session and more running (keep in mind the white spots are still there) I decided to run to make my meeting.  As my heart pounded and all muscles just lost feeling I thought to myself - hey if I pass out they can't be mad at me then.  I am sure there were lots of honks and people saying "look at that big spartan running, man he's slow".

As I got to the office, I noticed something - the cars where gone.  ARE YOU SERIOUS!!?????  I was late but not that late.  I ran through some other offices in the back of our parking lot where some small trees and bushes were being put in.  I was so up set that I picked up one of the pots and threw it across the parking lot.  As it broke I heard banging on the windows and what do you know - it was our controller and two receptionist cracking up laughing at me.  To make it just a little sweeter, the kids in the private school across from our office where just getting out of school and saw the whole thing.

At this point in the day, I didn't feel like a Spartan.  More like aaaaaaaaa, I don't know what the appropriate word would be but it was hard to laugh at myself.  I pulled my hat lower than usual and took the walk of shame inside.

I still didn't know anyones number so I had to turn to Facebook and really throw my business out in the street.  I couldn't send a message cause who checks those regularly.  I posted what happen on Brandy's wall and asked her to bring my keys.  Of course she didn't respond, some others did and after being their comedic relief for the day they offered to text her.  As she came and bailed me out and all the children laughed.

There are two things the kids said to me that I still remember.  First was Georgia "it sucks to be fat huh dad?  If you weren't fat your body wouldn't hurt so bad."

The second was Mae "daddy are you going to cry?"  The answer to both is YES!!!!!

I have since calmed down
I have paid for the bush I broke
I finally got back in my car
I saw the text pushing the video conference till the following Monday
I have put on 6 lbs doing my 2 a days

Honestly, I really saw all that playing out differently in my mind.

Warm weather + Mr. Christensen + Dirt + Bricks........

Hello 1dialtone followers,

My name is Jason Dial - on the web I have a pseudonym "Jay Longwhisker".  Don't laugh, its a healthy outlet.  I highly recommend it.  My plan is to be a guest blogger on 1dialtone for the month of April.  We'll see how well this goes.  Brandy and I have never really worked well together in a small physical spaces - lets see what happens in a small virtual space.

My sister asked Brandy about the blog the other day on Facebook.  The question had to do with the next post and when it would be ready.  After reading Brandy's response, I felt the need to chip in and help.  I mean really its only one extra blog post every few days.  I am good for about 25 a day in the office so this should be ok.  I hope.

Yesterday I woke to a kiss on my cheek from Brandy!  I thought it was Mae.  When I realized it was Brandy instead of Mae I thought - SHIT what's that for.  [Its funny how you can think something, but you wouldn't say it out loud and then you start laughing about it.  Unfortunately, there is a problem with that chain of events, people who see you just burst into laugher for no reason think you need medication.]

For whatever reason it was an awesome gesture.  I didn't want to ask what it was for, but it got me up for the day.  Theres nothing like a kiss from a Man's woman to put some steam in his stride.

As I stretched and thought of what to wear for my days adventure (for a moment) I actually thought I was going to play my first round of golf for the year.  It would be a cool way to burn off some steam.  I mean why not -

I put in 87 hours this week on 1 project alone at the office.
I got in a date night this week
I got in some daddy daughter time this week
I got in some park time with everyone this week
I got in 2 dinners at a restaurant with the family
I made time with the kids so Brandy could go with her friends to city creek

Yes!! A round of golf with my brothers and little Isaac would be so slick.

Then I saw the smile on Brandy's face and it clicked.  We're working on a retaining wall today.  For the record that's also an awesome way to burn off some steam too.  :)

Try not to focus on the fence.  We have asked 3 companies to come and give us a bid with no bids yet.  It will be done before the summer though.  I promise.  Regardless of budget I really don't think it will make it another year.  I swear a humming bird could fart on it and push it over.

Since it's already falling down we decided to take out a section and use that space for loading and unloading.  I know the neighbors think we are all on crack.

Couple things to note here in this picture

  • That woman up top is looking really fit.  Really fit.
  • Isaac is doing nothing.
  • George and Olivia are hooking up what will be there new tree house area
  • That woman up top is looking really fit.  Really fit
The railroad ties were completely dust.  Good job termites, less weight to lift.  This pic was taken before Brandy's daddy showed up.  Good thing too, I'm sure he would think I was an idiot for taking this pic.  Brandy's daddy is "ol skool".  He's what Clint Eastwood wishes he was.  So you don't take pictures of work, you just do the work.

He and Mrs. Christensen came down with stuff.  I consider them "high end hoarders" so I am happy when the bring stuff.  They gave us a huge freezer.  He also helped haul away tons of trash to the dump.

We got after our work pretty much all day and have this really cool 4 rows to show for it.  I gotta say, 100 of those blocks doesn't go very far.

It took about 80 of our 100 stone/bricks/rocks to do 1 small wall.  So you are looking at a 180.00 retaining wall.  I now have a new respect for people who have an entire yard of these things.  The work is one part but the budget is another.  Its obvious that the good people of Utah are stealing palets of this stuff in the middle of the night from Lowes and Home Depot.  I know thats now on my to do list.

By the time we got this 4 rows done there was only 23 rocks left and I needed to shower and shave for Priesthood Session.  Soon we'll knock another row out and I will be there to document the process.

Side Note
Georgia is now happy - she told us that this back section is scary and now she may consider playing back here.  As Brandy would say "O Good George"

I use the "loose it" app on the iphone - this yard work did wonders for the calorie intake of the day.  Who would have thought.

Cis - hopefully this will do.
